  • Rory Watson

ARTIST IN RESIDENCE / INTERN 2022

Rory Watson takes an image and through an economy of form, questions how much is required to convey the subject and activate the imagination, whilst challenging a vulnerability in a theatre of colour blindness.

Operating in the space between figuration and abstraction, licks of oil paint and threads of colour energetically combine, only to appear frozen in a calm stillness. Tranquility juxtaposes anxiety as the canvas becomes an open door, each brush stroke an impulsive recording of humanity and self discovery.

Since graduating from Central Saint Martins in 2019, Rory became one of the 2020 resident artists at The Muse Gallery, and has exhibited across London. He now works from his studio in Hackney and is a current resident with Art Inspirations and Aspirations (AIA).

  • Alexander Yates

    ARTIST IN RESIDENCE

Alexander Yates is an artist from South-East England, who currently lives and works in London. His work attempts to find, engage with, and harness the radical dreams of the past through the use of discarded media. He also attempts to confront his own past, utilising the internet within both sets of work to reconstruct memories both personal and cultural. Through video, sound, sculpture, installation and textile works, he looks at the cultural touchstones of ages passed, reawakening elements of their composition to present for an audience.

Yates’ work attempts to play with the post-modern world with a modernist sensibility, stretching and engaging with the textural in imagery to see how it can evoke our greatest loves and our deepest fears. By looking at the gaps between what was there and what is currently not, he attempts to create an ether in his work in which these two opposites can meet.
